OSU SB: Beavers to Open 2025 at Mustang Classic

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State softball team will open the 2025 season with five games this weekend at the Mustang Classic, hosted by Cal Poly.

Oregon State will meet Ball State (2/7 – 11 a.m. and 2/8, 11 a.m.) twice and playing the host Mustangs (2/7- 2 p.m., 2/8 – 5 p.m. and 2/9 – 11 a.m.) three times.

There will be no streams of the games but live stats will be provided for all five games.

By The Numbers

2: A Berg-led OSU team is opening a season in California for just the second time in a 13-year stretch.

3: Oregon State will open the season with three consecutive weekends in California.

5: OSU has at least one student-athlete from five of the six time zones in the United States. The only outlier is Alaskan.

6: Following Saturday, Oregon State will have played Ball State six times, the last being in the 2008 campaign.

13: Oregon State is entering year 13 of the Laura Berg era.

16: OSU will have 16 consecutive games in the Pacific Time Zone to open the 2025 season.

The Opposition

• Oregon State will open season 13 of the Laura Berg era with the Mustang Classic in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

• Cal Poly and Ball State will be the first opposition of the season for the Beavers.

• OSU is a perfect 4-0 against Ball State, with the last meeting coming in 2008.

• Against the hosts, the Beavers hold a 9-6 advantage with a 3-2 series lead under Berg.

A New Era Starts

• Oregon State will open its first of two seasons as an affiliate member of the West Coast Conference.

• Despite being an affiliate member of the league, the Beavers are eligible for the WCC’s championship and its automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in both seasons.

•The Beavers will return to a rebuilt Pac-12 in the 2027 season, joined by Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State.

• 18 new student-athletes joined the Oregon State program for the 2025 campaign.

• The new Beavs are from all over the country, spanning from Hawai’i (Nicole Donahue – Honolulu) to the New York City suburbs of New Jersey (Madison Weir – Wayne, N.J.) and everywhere in between.

WCC Accolades

• Lici Campbell and Nicole Donahue were tabbed to the preseason all-conference team by the WCC.

• Oregon State was selected by the league’s coaches to finish third in the six-team conference.

Getting Things Going in the Golden State

• Oregon State will be starting a season in California for the first time since 2021, when the Beavers opened the campaign in Fullerton in the Easton Invitational, hosted by Cal State Fullerton.

• This marks the second time a Berg-led OSU team has started in California.

• In all, the Beavers are scheduled for 22 games in California in 2025.

• The Beavers closed 2024 with its last four in California – three in Berkeley before the first round at the Pac-12 Tournament across the Bay in Stanford.

Top of the Pac for Logan

• At the conclusion of her first season in Corvallis, Hulon found herself in the upper portion of the Pac-12 – the country’s best conference – in numerous categories.

  • 10th in strikeouts – entire season (94)

  • 9th in strikeouts – Pac-12 games (44)

  • 7th in strikeouts looking (29)

  • 6th in strikeouts looking – Pac-12 games (14)

  • 9th in innings pitched – Pac-12 games (58.1)

  • 6th in opposing batting average – Pac-12 games (.253)

  • 5th in catching runners stealing (7)

  • 8th in sacrifice bunts allowed – Pac-12 games (4) – tied with fellow Beav, Ellie Garcia

Tough Tests in the Noncon Again

• The Beavers will have seven tests against teams in the initial top 25 of the 2025 season.

• Oregon State will face #5 Tennessee, #12 Florida State (twice), #21 California and #24 Oregon (three times) in nonconference play.

• For the third straight year, the Beavers and a ranked Lady Vols team will meet. 2025 marks the second time these programs will face off in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Beaver Staff Notes

• Familiar faces will be all over the Oregon State dugout in 2025.

• Entering her 13th year, Laura Berg will lead the Oregon State softball program.

Marcie Green will direct the pitching staff for the second season of her second stint with the program. She ended her first with the trip to the Women’s College World Series in 2022.

• Working primarily with the fielders and hitters, Matt Lisle is on Berg’s staff for the second year. Lisle joined Oregon State following experience across college softball, baseball and even MLB’s Chicago White Sox.

• Starting his journey from student manager in 2018, Dominic Garcia enters his second year as a member of the coaching staff. The Beaver alumnus worked his way up to head student manager to video coordinator in 2023 and will oversee player development, technology and data.

• Entering her fourth year with the program is Sarah Hoechlin, who serves as the Director of Operations. The OSU alumna spent two years as a student manager before a stint with the Corvallis Knights.

Looking Ahead

• Oregon State will venture back south to California for the Wilson Tournament, hosted by Long Beach from February 13-15.

• Opposition for the Beavers includes opponents from the ACC, Big 12, Big West and WAC.

• Long Beach State, Kansas, Iowa State, California and Southern Utah will match up against the Beavers.

• It will be the second of three consecutive trips to the Golden State to open 2025.
