OSU SB: Beavs Fall in Friday Contest

BERKELEY, Calif. – 19th-ranked California used a sixth-run fifth inning to pull away from Oregon State in the first game of the series on Friday afternoon, taking a 9-0 decision in five innings. 

The Golden Bears broke open a scoreless game after two-and-a-half scoreless by plating two in the third for the game’s lead before plating seven more to stretch their lead to the final at nine.

Oregon State (20-27, 8-14 Pac-12) was limited to three hits on the day, two coming from the bat of Eliana Gottlieb while Grace Messmer and Savanah Whatley each had one. The Beavers threatened on numerous occasions but left seven on base, including a pair in scoring position – second and third – in the third inning but came up empty.

Sarah Haendiges (8-7) got tagged with the loss after giving up five Golden Bear runs on nine hits and faced 20 batters in four-plus innings pitched. Appearing in relief, Ellie Garcia tossed the final 0.2, where she faced six but surrendered four runs on four hits.

The regular season-ending series against the Golden Bears continues tomorrow with game two set for 2 p.m. and can be seen on Pac-12 Networks.
