OSU VB: Abbie Wright Elevated to Associate Head Coach

Wright, entering her second season in Corvallis, has played an integral role in the growth of the team’s success during since her arrival. In addition to her coaching duties, she also pilots the search for the next groups of student-athletes as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

“With Abbie’s previous stints as a head coach, she has been a backbone to this program and I am grateful for the commitment she gives to the student-athletes and future ones to come,” said Behonick. “She is so deserving of this promotion and honored to have her as my Associate Head Coach representing Oregon State Volleyball. “

Under the guidance of Wright, the Beavers defeated multiple ranked teams for the first time since 2011, swept the Arizona opposition at home for the first time since 2017, the Washington schools on the road for the first time since 2017, and a pair of Pac-12 players of the week. Mychael Vernon became the first student-athlete to receive postseason all-conference honors under the current staff after receiving the honors from the Pac-12 following the 2023 campaign.

Prior to her time on Behonick’s staff, Wright led Fresno State in 2022 after a successful stint at the helm of Seattle Pacific. She helped lead her alma mater, Biola, to four NAIA Tournament appearances and a 115-24 (.827) in a four-year stretch.

“I’m extremely grateful to Lindsey – the opportunities she has provided me here, the knowledge I’ve gained being under her leadership, and her trust in me to help forward her vision and mission with this program,” said Wright. “She is collaborative, insightful and creative. Because of Lindsey, I have become a better communicator, strategist, coach and person. It’s an honor to represent Oregon State Volleyball and work with some of the best in the business. Our staff, administration and support team here has helped me get to this point and for that I am thankful.”

A standout student-athlete at Biola, Wright holds numerous individual records including matches played in a career, sets played and service aces. She helped lead them to four NAIA Tournaments, including two trips to the semifinals as well as an appearance in the quarterfinals.

Wright’s second season with the Beavers commences in August, starting with the annual Orange and Black Exhibition, slated for Saturday, August 17.
