OSU VB: Beavers To Close 2024 in California

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Beaver volleyball team concludes the 2024 season this week with a pair of matches in southern California.

NUMBERS TO KNOW

4 – Oregon State conceded just four points to Portland in the third set on Wednesday night, the lowest in program history.

6 – Oregon State will meet both opponents – LMU and Pepperdine – for the sixth time in program history.

7 – The Beavers will finish the season having played in seven locales in the Golden State.

8 – Kalli Schoening capped her collegiate career in the Beaver State with a best-eight blocks in the win over Washington State last Friday night.

17 – Oregon State used a 17-0 run to put away Portland in last week’s sweep of the Pilots.

21 – Oregon State won the third set over Portland with a 21-point margin, the largest in the rally scoring era (2008-pres.) in program history.

THE WEEK’S OPPOSITION

• Oregon State closes the 2024 season with matchups against the top two teams in the league this week in southern California.

• The Beavers will meet LMU on Wednesday night before capping the campaign in Malibu against Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon.

• The Beavers will look to even the season series with both the Lions and Waves.

• OSU’s WCC debut was a four-set setback to Pepperdine back in September.

• LMU prevailed in five sets over the Beavers back in late October.

• The Beavers and Lions will meet for the sixth time in their series with LMU holding the slight series lead at 3-2. Neither side has won consecutive meetings in the matchup.

• Oregon State and Pepperdine will also meet for the sixth time. The Beavers will look to snap a three-match skid to the Waves in the season finale.

• The Beavers started the week with an emphatic sweep of Portland on Wednesday night. OSU used a 17-0 run in the third to finish off the Pilots in three for the season sweep.

• Portland was held to a -.103 hitting percentage in the final set that saw OSU dig out 20 Pilot attempts.

• Oregon State kept the momentum with a four-set win over Washington State. Four pins had at least 10 kills while a pair of setters had 24-or-more assists.

• OSU’s offense hit at a .609 rate on the way to a 12-point win in set three against Wazzu.

• Oregon State closes its first of two years as an affiliate member of the WCC on Saturday.

• Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State and Utah State will join OSU and Washington State in a rebuilt Pac-12 on July 1, 2026.

• Annika Hester’s 224 kills is third in the league while her 3.50 kills/set is good enough for fifth.

• The 72 kills as a team in the first win over San Francisco is the fourth-most by a team in league play and eighth overall this season.

• Lauren Rumel’s 20-kill day against Gonzaga in late October was the most this season during league play in a three-set match.

• Hester’s 19 in the road win at Portland to close October was among the most in the league among four-set matches.

• Hester followed it up with the fourth-most in league play among five-setters, with 25 in the mid-October win over Gonzaga.

Lilo Leveling up

Standing at 687 assists, Lilo entered OSU’s top 10 for assists in a single season by a freshman in the win over Saint Mary’s last month with her 485th helper.

• The Kailua, Hawaii, product currently sits in seventh place.

A pair of Beavers – Emma Lilo and Lauren Rumel – have competed in all 102 sets this season across the 26 matches played in 2024.

• Rumel played in all 120 sets (in 30 matches) in 2023.
