OSU VB: Oregon State Falls to No. 3 Stanford on Friday

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball team battled but fell in a three-set match to third-ranked Stanford on Friday night.

Megan Sheridan led the OSU (7-12, 2-7 Pac-12) offense with 11 kills while Amanda Burns helped out with a team-best 18 digs and Ryan White paced the defense with a dozen digs. Doga Diraz and Kiera Herron each contributed a service ace.

The Cardinal limited Oregon State’s offense with 14 blocks and countered with a .367 clip.

A combined three kills from Vernon and Burns in the first let the Beavers jump out to an early 4-1 lead but the momentum flipped toward Stanford as they tied it before ultimately taking the opener. Oregon State trimmed their deficit to as few as four behind kills from Lauren Rumel and Peyton Suess. The Cardinal took a big lead early in the second but saw the Beavers respond by turning a five-point deficit to just one at 12-11. After a kill by Stanford’s Caitie Baird, the visitors seized the momentum and pushed the Beavs to the brink. The Cardinal then sealed the match with a 25-19 third in which they held a wire-to-wire lead.

Sheridan tallied five of her team-best 11 kills in the third set while White dug seven times.

Oregon State will close out their four-match homestand on Sunday afternoon with a battle against California. First serve against the Golden Bears is set for noon and can be seen on the OSU Live Stream.
