OSU VB: Oregon State Signs Six on National Signing Day

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball team has added six new student-athletes for the 2025 season on National Signing Day, as announced on Friday morning by head coach Lindsey Behonick.

Maëli Cormier

Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Québec (Cégep Garneau) • Opposite • 6-1

A right-side hitter with experience with her native Canada’s National Experience Program, Cormier will bring national team experience to campus next year. She was one of 17 – and the only one from Québec – to be selected for Canada’s U-21 team at the NORCECA Cup in Toronto this past summer, where Canada took fourth place. The competition is designed to give athletes a chance to qualify for the 2025 U21 World Championships. On the club scene, she has competed for Élans de Garneau – one of the best volleyball programs in Québec.

Coach Behonick’s thoughts on Cormier:

“Maëli is someone with a lot of volleyball experience and a desire to be great. She has trained with the best of the best in Canada, competed internationally and has a maturity for her age that is well beyond her years. Her experience at the opposite attacking position against some great players has prepared her well for the college environment and is someone that will bring a steadiness on and off the court to our team. We are excited she has chosen the West Coast to call her new home!”

Keila Gabriel

San Diego, Calif. (Westview HS) • Opposite • 6-4

Another right-side with international experience, the Californian has competed for the Japanese under-21 national team for the past three years, including helping lead her team to a runner-up performance in the U20 Asian Championship last year. She was tabbed by Prep Dig as #16 in the Golden State leading into the season. In three seasons of varsity action with Del Norte High, Gabriel totaled 71 kills in 54 sets of play. On the club circuit, she competes for Wave VBC, one of the top clubs in the country, on Girls 18 Juliana, based out of Del Mar, Calif.

Coach Behonick’s thoughts on Gabriel:

Keila is a player that has a ton of experience training and competing overseas in Japan, most recently also in China, and against some of the best players in California. We are excited that Keila will bring international experience to our gym, as she has been able to see and adapt to different styles of play. Her block is elite, making it difficult for any outside hitter to score and she adds another dynamic to our offense with her left-handed attack. We can’t wait to see what these next four years here at OSU have in store for her!”

Cheyenne Green

Pleasant Hill, Ore. (Pleasant Hill HS) • Outside Hitter • 6-1

Staying in the Beaver State and fresh off a third-place finish in the state tournament and being named the Mountain Valley Conference’s Player of the Year, making the short trek from Pleasant Hill to Corvallis, Green – the fifth-ranked player in Oregon by Prep Dig – will bring her strong all-around play into Gill Coliseum next year for the Beavers. In a region matchup earlier this season, Green racked up a double-double of 18 kills and 16 digs to help her school pull out a five-set win. A multi-sport athlete, Green has also been a four-year member of Pleasant Hill High School’s varsity basketball squad. Outside of play with Pleasant Hill, she helped lead Webfoot – one of the area’s top clubs – to a division championship at last April’s JVA World Challenge.

Coach Behonick’s thoughts on Green:

“Cheyenne is one of the top and most dominant recruits in the state and we were thrilled to keep her in the area. It has been awesome these last two years to watch her develop and excel while playing for one of the top high school programs as well as clubs in the area. She brings strong experience on both pins – playing with ease at the outside and opposite hitting positions. She will bring a level of physicality and finesse to the team as she is a gifted six-rotation player, possessing a wide range of skills required to play the game. We are glad she chose to remain in the Beaver State!”

Kamana’o’okalani Goldstein

Honolulu, Hawaii (Kamehameha School) • Libero • 5-9

Named one of Hawaii’s best prep players by ESPN Honolulu after 2023, Goldstein helped lead her Kamehameha Warriors to a state title in her junior year after being tabbed to the ILH state All-Star team in 2023. Playing on both sides as an outside and as a libero, she’s made an impact in her three years on the varsity level with a combined 637 digs – including 344 in 2024 – and 238 digs. Goldstein wrapped up her prep career last week with another state championship.

She was prep teammates with current Beaver setter, Emma Lilo.

Coach Behonick’s thoughts on Goldstein

“From Kamana’o’s first time on campus, I knew she belonged here. She has been committed to what we are doing as a program from the very first conversation we had with her. She is a competitor and all-around great volleyball player with a fantastic feel and IQ for the game. She is an elite defender, exceptional teammate and someone who is constantly working to get better. We cannot wait to get her on campus and know that she will enhance our defensive range on the court and culture off the court.”

Alana Marrs

Ellensburg, Wash. (Ellensburg HS) • Middle Blocker • 6-4

A four-year starter for Ellensburg High, the Washingtonian will bring a strong defensive presence to the gym next year for the Beavers. She currently holds Prep Dig’s sixth-ranking for the state of Washington. Following the 2023 season, she was named to the all-state and all-conference teams after leading her high school team to a fifth-place finish at the Washington state tournament. She recently guided her Bulldogs squad to a district crown with a double-double from 23 kills and 10 digs – along with four aces as well – in a dominant sweep.

Not just a standout in volleyball, she’s been a letterwinner on the basketball team and won a pair of state titles on the hardwood.

Her brother, Gavin, is a forward on the men’s basketball team at Oregon State.

Coach Behonick’s thoughts on Marrs

“Alana is a player with many great things ahead of her. She provides a dominant block, reads the game well and has experience in pretty much every front row position. This has expanded her knowledge of the game and allowed her to be successful in any offensive role. We are excited to see what her future as a middle blocker here has in store, as she will enhance our offensive and expand what we are able to do creatively because of her experience in so many positions. Glad she is a Beav!”

Taray Tela

Provo, Utah (Timpview HS) • Middle Blocker • 6-0

Named Under Armour Next MVP during its Las Vegas 2024 event, Tela will bring her wide-ranged skillset to Corvallis next year. During her prep career, she’s been named to the all-region team while competing for Provo High School.

Away from the volleyball court, she competed on her school’s track and field team. In July of 2019, she finished 34th nationally in the 100-meter at the USATF Junior National Championships. In her junior year, she competed in the Utah Junior Olympics in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.

Coach Behonick’s thoughts on Tela:

“Taray is a talented player with a physicality at the net that is dominant. From the first time watching her, I knew she had only begun to tap into what was going to be a great career in front of her. She immediately raises the level of any team she is on – her fast arm and offensive capabilities are hard to stop. She is someone that will make our front row more dynamic and powerful. We are excited she is a Beaver and we know her future is bright!”

The Beavers will be back in action tomorrow inside Gill Coliseum against San Diego, with the match set for 12:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
