OSU WSOC: OSU Women’s Soccer Falls in Close Match

CORVALLIS, Ore. – In a game that finished with just a one goal difference, Oregon State women’s soccer fell on Thursday to future Pac-12 opponent Fresno State, 1-0, at Paul Lorenz Field.

Aidan Brown earned her first start of the season as Oregon State opened the game with a number of key chances. Off a corner kick less than one minute into the game, Amaya Bautista and Hayden Wilson both had shots blocked inside the box.

20 minutes later, Katie Godden had a pair of shots saved, including a rocket off a direct free kick that forced an acrobatic stop from the Bulldog goalkeeper.

Mya Sanchez made a diving stop to her left in the 27th off a screened shot as both teams battled to a level scoreline at half.

The visitors took control in the second half, finding a breakthrough in the 58th minute.

Oregon State seemed destined to level the game at the death, as McKenna Martinez played Carly Carraher to the edge of the box, but Carraher’s shot to the far post was saved as time expired.

Oregon State finished with seven shots (three on goal) and took two corner kicks, while committing seven fouls and drawing 13. Mya Sanchez made four saves in net as seven Beavers played the full 90.

OSU returns to action on Sunday, hosting South Dakota State. Kickoff against the Jackrabbits is slated for 11 a.m. PT.
