OSU WSOC: Sanchez Named Conference Player of the Week

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Oregon State goalkeeper Mya Sanchez was named West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Across two games over the weekend, Sanchez was a standout between the pipes for the Beavers, who finished with one win and a scoreless draw across the two-game road slate.

On Wednesday, the junior shot-stopper played a huge role in OSU’s 2-1 victory over Pacific, making six saves and posting a save percentage of 85.7 across 18 shots faced. Just three days later, she tied a career high with seven saves, leading the team to its second clean sheet of the season in a scoreless draw against St. Mary’s.

In her first season as the team’s top-choice goalkeeper, Sanchez has made an immediate impact, playing every single minute across Oregon State’s 11 games in 2024, making a conference-leading 58 saves and averaging 5.3 per contest.

With a save percentage of 75.3, she has made five or more saves in eight different games this season.

Sanchez and the Beavers will continue conference competition on Wednesday, playing host to San Francisco. Kickoff at Paul Lorenz Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
