Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Performance Awards, presented by Nextiva – February 26, 2024

The Pac-12 announced its 16th weekly honors of the 2023-24 men’s basketball season as presented by Nextiva and voted on by media who cover the league. See below for this week’s recognitions and keep track of the 2023-24 Player of the Year watchlist here

Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Nextiva (2/26/24)         
KJ Simpson, COLORADO             
Jr., G, Panorama City, Calif.

  • Efficient performance in leading Colorado to an 89-65 victory over rival Utah, scoring 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting (67%), including 5-of-8 behind the arc (63%). 
  • Added four rebounds, three assists and a steal in decisive win over Runnin’ Utes. 
  • Is 1-of-5 players in NCAA Division I, and 1-of-2 from Power Conferences (Kevin McCullar, Kansas), averaging 19.0 points (19.56 ppg), 5.0 rebounds (5.56 rpg) and 4.0 assists (4.59 apg). 
  • 14th different Player of the Week recipient in 16 weeks so far this season, equaling the second-most in a season (2018-19, 2013-14, 2011-12, 1983-84) and trailing only the 15 different recipients in 2008-09. 
  • Third career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor (11/14/22, 1/2/23) and fifth career Pac-12 weekly award (two-time Freshman of the Week).

Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week, presented by Nextiva (2/26/24)         
Rueben Chinyelu, WASHINGTON STATE         
Fr., C, Enugu Agidi, Nigeria

  • Recorded his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to help Washington State upset No. 4 Arizona, 77-74, in Tucson to complete a season sweep of the Wildcats. 
  • Played a career-high 28 minutes and converted 6-of-7 field goals against the Wildcats. 
  • For the week, averaged 8.0 points on 80 percent shooting (8-10 FG), 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 assists in a desert split. 
  • Eighth Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award for Cougars this season (Myles Rice 7), most for a single program since award’s inception in 2019-20 (USC 7 2020-21, UCLA 7 2022-23).
