#PAC12MBB STARTING FIVE

24-3 – Pac-12 Men’s Basketball enjoyed arguably the best opening week of any conference in college basketball, posting a national-best 24-3 mark (.889) over the first seven days of the season.

  • Counting only NCAA Division I opponents, the Pac-12’s 23-3 mark (.885) is also the best in the nation.
  • The 24-3 overall record is the Pac-12’s best start to a season since opening 25-3 in the 2019-20 campaign. The league went on to win 74 percent (114-40) of its non-conference games that year before the postseason was wiped out by the pandemic.

2 – The sport’s marquee victory of opening week came from ARIZONA, which scored a 78-73 road upset of then No. 2 Duke. The Wildcats were subsequently named National Team of the Week by NCAA.com and ESPN.

  • It marked the best non-conference road win ever for Arizona, while it was the Pac-12’s best non-league road win since Arizona State won at No. 2 Kansas in 2017.
  • It was only the third non-conference road victory against an AP Top-2 opponent since the league’s expansion to the Pac-10 in 1978-79 (Arizona over #2 Duke; Arizona State over #2 Kansas; UCLA over #1 Kentucky, 2016).

3 – Included in the Pac-12’s 24-3 start are three victories over Power Conference opponents, all of them away from home.

  • ARIZONA won at the No. 2 Duke (78-73), while USC rolled 2022 Elite Eight participant Kansas State (82-69) and OREGON defeated Georgia (82-71) in Las Vegas on opening day.
  • Only the SEC has more Power Conference wins so far this season (5-3).

3 x 25 – With COLORADO entering at No. 25 this week, the Pac-12 has three AP Top 25 teams (#3 Arizona, #16 USC) for the first time since the Dec. 19, 2022 poll.

  • The Buffaloes appear in the AP poll for the first time since finishing 22nd in the final ranking of the 2020-21 season.
  • Arizona vaulted nine spots to No. 3 for its highest ranking since closing at No. 2 in the final poll of the 2021-22 season.

26 – The schedule difficulty increases with the start of Feast Week multi-team events (MTEs) part of the Conference’s 26 games over the next week.

  • The slate will include at least five (and as many as 10) Power Conference opponents, headlined by UCLA’s participation in a Maui Invitational field featuring five teams ranked in the top 11 of the AP poll. The Bruins will open against No. 4 Marquette.
