Pac-12 Softball Players Of The Week

EUGENE – Oregon left-handed pitcher Brooke Yanez was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday after tossing a complete game in a win over then-No. 1 UCLA Sunday and earning the save later in the day against Utah.

Yanez turned in another dominant start in the circle against the top-ranked Bruins in Sunday’s win, striking out 10 while walking just one and giving up a run on six hits in a complete game victory. She retired 11 batters in a row at one point and set UCLA down in order in four of her seven inning pitched.

In the seventh inning of the UCLA win, she struck out the final two batters of the game with the bases loaded and Oregon up by two to seal the game. Additionally, Yanez is the first pitcher since May 2019 to hold UCLA to less than two runs while tossing a complete game.

In the second game of the doubleheader on Sunday, Yanez entered to start the fifth inning with Oregon up by three and worked the final three innings to earn the save. She struck out six while walking none in the relief outing, including ending the game with three straight punch-outs after allowing a solo homer to lead off the seventh.

The Ventura, Calif. native has been dominant in the circle all season long. She currently has 46 strikeouts to just four walks over 28 innings pitched with a 1.93 ERA. Yanez is also 4-0 on the season with a pair of complete games to go along with a save and has double-digit strikeouts in four of her appearances.

  • Led Arizona to five wins at the Wildcat Invitational, where the team finished the weekend with 44 runs scored.
