CORVALLIS, Ore. – Pat McCann has joined the Oregon State football team as the program’s wide receivers coach, head coach Trent Bray announced on Wednesday.
McCann comes to Corvallis after three seasons at Fresno State, where he served all three years as the wide receivers coach and last two as the Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator.
“I’m excited to welcome Coach McCann to Corvallis,” Bray said. “His wide receiving corps have made immediate impacts at everywhere he has been and is coming on board to lead a talented group at Oregon State.”
McCann’s wideouts reached 1,000 yards twice during his tenure, most recently by Mac Dalena, who finished with 64 catches for 1,065 yards and was named First-Team All-Mountain West in 2024. Raylen Sharpe was also named First-Team All-League, the second time in three seasons Fresno State saw two all-conference receivers.
Jalen Moreno-Cropper tallied 1,086 yards and five touchdowns in McCann’s first season. He and Nikko Remigio, who finished with 852 yards, were both named All-MWC in 2022.
McCann, who also served as passing game coordinator in 2022, guided the Bulldogs to the No. 2 passing offense and No. 5 in total offense in his first season in Fresno.
The Olympia, Wash., native was hired at Fresno State just before the 2022 season, coming from Eastern Washington, where, in three years he oversaw the team’s wide receivers, was passing game coordinator and spent one season as recruiting coordinator. He was also the interim offensive coordinator to finish his final season.
Eastern Washington was a regular top-25 team at the FCS level in 2021, finishing 10-3 and making an appearance in that season’s playoffs. Eastern Washington’s offense averaged 555.7 yards per game, with 400.5 coming through the air.
The Eagles’ offensive attack set the program’s single-season record for most yards passing, most offensive plays, most yards of total offense, most pass attempts and most passing touchdowns.
In 2020-21, McCann coached a pair of all-conference receivers in Talolo Limu-Jones and Freddie Roberson. Limu-Jones was also a Second-Team All-American and he and Roberson combined for 81 receptions for 1,229 yards and seven touchdowns.
McCann was the wide receivers coach at Northern Iowa in 2017 and 2018 after four seasons in the same role at UC Davis.
He opened his coaching career at Stonehill College where he was the wide receivers coach from 2009-12. He was also the offensive coordinator in 2011 and 2012.
McCann is a graduate of Western Washington, where he was a First-Team All-Conference selection as a wideout in 2008. He caught 58 passes for 1,057 yards and 11 touchdowns that season. He also spent time playing at the College of the Canyons from 2003-05.
The appointment is contingent on the completion of all university hiring processes.
