PORTLAND, Ore. – Timbers midfielder Andy Polo has been called up by the Peruvian National Team for a pair of friendly matches against Panama (Jan. 16) and Jamaica (Jan. 20), the Timbers announced this week.
Timbers midfielder Yimmi Chara has been called up by the Colombian National Team for a friendly match against Honduras, the Colombian Football Federation.
In preparation for World Cup Qualifiers, Chara will join the team in Barranquilla, Colombia for training camp before heading to Miami, Fla. to face Honduras at DRV PNK Stadium. Kickoff for Sunday’s match is set for 2:30 p.m. (Pacific).
Polo joined the team in his home country for training camp to prepare to face Panama and Jamaica at Estadio Nacional de Lima in Lima, Peru. Kickoff for both matches are set for 1 p.m. (Pacific).
Polo, 27, received his first call-up since Oct. 6 in 2020 when he joined Peru for a pair of qualifying matches, making appearances in both games. The Lima, Peru native has scored one goal in 31 appearances for the senior team since his debut in 2016. This is Polo’s first call-up since his season-ending injury on May 25, 2021.
Chara, 30, has made 14 appearances for Colombia, tallying one goal and an assist since making his debut on Oct. 10, 2014. Making four appearances in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying, Chara scored the game-winning goal and the first of his international career, in a 2-1 victory against Venezuela on Sept. 7, 2018. Most recently with Colombia, Chara earned third place in the 2021 Copa America after defeating Perú on July 9, 2021, making four appearances throughout the tournament.
