#PortlandTimbers: Timbers End Champions League Run in Club América Rematch

MEXICO CITY – The Portland Timbers’ run in the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League came to an end with a 3-1 loss against Club América in the second leg of the quarterfinals at Estadio Azteca on Wednesday night. Diego Valeri scored the lone goal in the match for Portland, converting a penalty kick in the second half.

The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Providence Park on April 28. América advanced 4-2 on aggregate, winning the second leg to advance to the semifinals.

Champions League Review
Portland made its deepest CCL run in club history by advancing to the quarterfinals in 2021. It marked the club’s third appearance in the tournament after featuring in the 2014-15 and 2016-17 editions of the competition.
