PORTLAND – Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard will play for the U.S. Olympic Men’s Basketball Team at the Tokyo Olympics, it was announced officially by USA Basketball.
It will be the first Olympic appearance for Lillard, who joins Clyde Drexler (1992) and Steve Smith (2000) as the third player to play for Team USA in the Olympics while on the Trail Blazers roster. Lillard previously made two appearances with Team USA in exhibition games prior to the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
USA Basketball unveiled its official 12-member U.S. Olympic Men’s Basketball Team, which includes: Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards), Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Durant, Jerami Grant (Detroit Pistons), Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors), Jrue Holiday (Milwaukee Bucks), Zach LaVine (Chicago Bulls), Kevin Love (Cleveland Cavaliers), Khris Middleton (Milwaukee Bucks) and Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics).
The USA coaching staff is led by head coach Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs) with assistant coaches Steve Kerr (Golden State Warriors), Lloyd Pierce and Jay Wright (Villanova University) and Jerry Colangelo serving as the USA Men’s National Team managing director.
