Sabally Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Satou Sabally has capped the final regular season of her collegiate career with a Pac-12 player of the week award after helping the Oregon women’s basketball team clinch its third straight conference title, the conference office announced on Monday morning.

Sabally, who will enter the WNBA Draft following the season, averaged 23.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game with three straight 20-point performances to lead the Ducks to a 3-0 week, beginning with a stellar 27-point, nine-rebound showing in Monday’s win at No. 4 Stanford.

The Berlin, Germany, native had 22 points and seven boards in Friday’s win over Washington State, and then capped the weekend with 20 points on Sunday vs. Washington before being honored in Oregon’s senior day ceremony.

Sabally has been terrific during Oregon’s current 16-game win streak, leading the team with 18.6 points while shooting 48.5 percent from the floor and grabbing 7.9 rebounds per game. On the season, Sabally is averaging 16.8 points and 7.2 rebounds while rounding out the Ducks’ “Big Three” with seniors Sabrina Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard.

This is Sabally’s first Pac-12 player of the week honor of the season, and she joins Ionescu (three times) and Hebard (once) as Ducks to win the award this season. Oregon is the only team to have three different players receive the honor this year.

The Ducks, who held strong at No. 3 in the Associated Press top-25 poll on Monday, closed the regular season with a 28-2 overall record and a 17-2 mark in Pac-12 play, setting a new program record for conference wins. Oregon is a perfect 15-0 at home, breaking the record for consecutive home wins in a season and recording the first undefeated regular season at home since 1985-86.

Oregon will get a bye in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament as the No. 1 seed, meaning the Ducks will kick off their weekend in Las Vegas on Friday at 2 p.m. PT against the winner of the 8/9 match-up between Utah and Washington.
