EUGENE, Ore. – Iñaki Gonzalo San Millán has been named volunteer assistant women’s soccer coach, head coach Graeme Abel announced on Wednesday.
San Millán has strong connections to the Willamette Valley. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Oregon and previously coached the Eugene Timbers Football Club.
San Millán spent the 2021 season as a volunteer assistant at Virginia. The Cavaliers had one of the best years in program history, winning the Atlantic Coast Conference with an 8-0-2 record. Virginia was ranked No. 1 for much of the season and advanced to the third round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Overall, the Cavaliers were 18-3-2.
Prior to his time at Virginia, San Millán served as the head coach for the boy’s varsity program at St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Va., after a stint as the junior varsity soccer coach at St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, Va.
In addition, San Millán has served as a premier club soccer coach in places like Oregon, Spain and Virginia – including assignments with Santutxu FC (the highest level of U19 men’s soccer competition in Spain), Eugene Timbers FC and Richmond United.
He holds a USSF D coaching license with a certificate as a Football Tactical Analyst by Barca Innovation Hub.
San Millán earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish philology from Deustuko Unibertsitatea in Spain (2003), a master’s in Spanish from Oregon (2011) and a master’s in Spanish literature from Washington University in Saint Louis (2013).
