Seahawks Officially Release Former All-Pro DT Damon Harrison

SEATTLE – It’s no longer #SnackTime in Seattle.

The Seahawks officially waived veteran defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison, a decision that was made after he and head coach Pete Carroll met Monday morning.

Snacks had announced via Twitter on Sunday morning that he declined a practice roster spot after being listed as inactive following his recent stint filling in on the 53-man roster during the Seahawks’ injury-plagued mid-season.

“I want to thank my teammates and the Seahawks for allowing me to be a small part in the 2020 season,” Harrison Tweeted. “Wish it didn’t have to end but it’s time for us both to move on. All love 12s.”

Harrison, a former first-team All-Pro with the Giants, signed to Seattle’s practice squad earlier this season, then made his Seahawks debut in Week 10. Harrison appeared in six games, recording nine tackles and a forced fumble. With Bryan Mone returning from injured reserve, Harrison was inactive for Sunday’s game.

“He has decided to stop playing,” Carroll said on Seahawks.com. “He’s done playing. I talked to him this morning, he’s in good spirits and all of that, he’s really grateful for the opportunity playing here and he did really well by us, but he’s done. I don’t know what will happen with any other club, but I know he’s got a big family, he’s got a bunch of kids—he’s got seven kids to corral and take care of, and it’s a very trying time and challenging, so he’s just trying to get them back home and safe. It was awesome to have him around. We loved him, and I’m sorry to see him go, but we’ve got to keep going.”

Harrison has indicated on Twitter that he wants to keep playing this year, but COVID-19 testing protocols could complicate that.

“What’s next for me? I’m not sure, I have to make sure my family is good before I do anything. They are my 1st priority,” Snacks said. “I’d like to keep playing but with Covid and other logistics it’s tough to just pack up and immediately leave. I’ll keep y’all posted!”
