EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 21st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
Harmon was the first Duck to come off the board while giving Oregon a first-round pick in each of the last six NFL Drafts, following Bo Nix (2024), Christian Gonzalez (2023), Kayvon Thibodeaux (2022), Penei Sewell (2021) and Justin Herbert (2020).
Harmon becomes the 23rd first-round pick in program history, and he is Oregon’s 11th first-round selection since 2013 and 14th since 2000. Harmon is the first Duck ever to be selected by the Steelers in the first round.
A transfer from Michigan State who spent his lone season with the Ducks in 2024, Harmon started all 14 games for Oregon and was a consensus second-team all-American while also earning all-Big Ten second-team honors from the media and third-team recognition from the league’s coaches.
Harmon led all FBS interior defensive linemen with 55 total pressures in 2024, tying for 12th among all FBS players. He generated at least three pressures in 13 of 14 games while racking up a career-high 10.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and 45 total tackles. Harmon also added four pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Harmon was credited by Pro Football Focus with an 83.9 overall grade with the Ducks, 13th-best among FBS interior defensive linemen, and his pass-rush grade of 86.3 tied for fourth in the nation at the position. The Detroit native had eight games with a tackle for loss and three games with multiple TFLs.
After setting the program record with eight NFL Draft picks in 2024, Oregon is expected to once again rewrite history this weekend after having a record 12 players invited to the NFL Combine. The 2025 NFL Draft continues on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. PT (ESPN, ABC, NFL Network).
