Stember, Doyle Lead Way In Round One

WAIMEA, Hawaii – Three Ducks shot sub-70 rounds as the No. 18 Oregon men’s golf team fired an 11-under 277 in round one of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate at the Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club on Thursday afternoon.

How It Happened

Stember – ranked No. 49 nationally – bogeyed on his first hole of the day, but responded by shooting par-or-better on each of his remaining holes. The fifth-year senior finished the day with six birdies, including a stretch in which he birdied four out of six on the back half of his round, to card a 67 and tie for 12th.

Making his first appearance in the Ducks’ lineup this season, Doyle turned in a five-birdie, one-bogey performance to finish tied for22nd, one stroke behind Stember. Greyson Leach was bogey-free with four birdies through his first 15 holes, but two late bogeys slowed his progress as the junior finished 2 under, good to tie for 49th on the leaderboard. Owen Avrit sank three birdies en route to shooting even par on the day, while Greg Solhaug used two birdies and an eagle to help finish 1 over.

Competing as an individual, Krafft sat at even par as he entered his final two holes but eagled the 15th before sinking a birdie on 16,vaulting up to a tie for 37th on the leaderboard in the late stages of the round.

“It’s been a long time since we last competed and we shook off some rust today,” head coach Casey Martin said. “Nate and Eric each played beautifully. The other guys played really solid as well but had some tough finishes today.”
