QUICK HITS

RACE TO VEGAS:  The 2023 Pac-12 Championship Game is less than a month away with 7 teams still in contention.  Washington could become the first to punch their ticket this weekend with a win over Utah plus losses by Arizona, USC and Oregon State.

Outside of the teams’ allotments, tickets for the Pac-12 Championship game are SOLD OUT.  Secondary market tickets are available through TicketSmarter and you can still purchase suites and Loge at https://suites.raiders.com/.

CFP DEBUT:  The second CFP rankings of the 2023 season were released this week with the Pac-12 having 5 teams listed, tied for the 2nd most of any conference.  The Pac-12 has now had at least 5 teams in every CFP ranking the last 2 seasons.

Washington was again the highest ranked Pac-12 team at #5 with Oregon still right behind them at #6.  #12 Oregon State has their highest ever CFP ranking while #21 Arizona is ranked for the first time since Oct. 2017  #18 Utah has now appeared in 13 straight CFP rankings.

BOWL BOUND:  The Pac-12 is 1 of 3 conferences with 7 teams already bowl eligible for this season:  Washington, USC, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah, Arizona

  • Needs 2 wins:  Colorado, Washington State
  • Needs 3 wins:  California, Stanford

RUNNIN’ WILD:  Washington RB Dillon Johnson racked up 256 rush yards and 4 TD in the win at then #20 USC on his way to being named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week and the Doak Walker RB of the Week.  Johnson became the first Pac-12 player to have 250+ rush yards and 4+ rush TD since Arizona QB Khalil Tate against Colorado in 2017.

BARNES STORMIN’:  Utah QB Bryson Barnes had 4 passing TD on just 161 pass yards in last week’s 55-3 win over Arizona State.  Barnes became just the 2nd FBS QB this season to have at least 4 passing TD in a game with less than 170 passing yards and just 5th Pac-12 QB to do that since 1996 (UCLA’s Chase Griffin the last to do it in 2020 against Stanford in 2OT).

SIX PAC:  Oregon QB Bo Nix had 4 passing TD and 2 rushing TD in their 63-19 win over Cal.  Nix is the 2nd Pac-12 QB with 6 TD in a game this season (USC’s Caleb Williams 6 pass TD at Colorado) and the 5th Power 5 QB this season.  2 of the 5 QB’s are former Pac-12’ers with Cincinnati’s Emory Jones (formerly Arizona State) and Louisville’s Jack Plummer (formerly Cal).  The last Oregon QB with 4+ pass TD & 2+ rush TD was Marcus Mariota in 2014.
