TIMBERS ANNOUNCE LEAGUES CUP 2023 ROSTER

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today announced the club’s Leagues Cup 2023 roster. The Timbers are set to open their first edition of Leagues Cup 2023 in West 1 Group against San Jose Earthquakes (July 22) and LIGA MX side Tigres UANL (July 26). The Saturday, July 22 match is set to kick off at 7 p.m. (Pacific) and will feature a national broadcast on FS1 and Univision with streaming available on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish as well as local radio broadcasts, 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

The Timbers have signed Ryan Bilichuk, Julian Bravo, Joshua Penn and Florian Monzón from T2 to short-term agreements for Leagues Cup 2023. Per MLS rules, a club may sign a player from its affiliate (MLS NEXT Pro or USL) to a maximum of four Short-Term Agreements (up to four-day contracts) each season (maximum of 16 days). An individual player may be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season. However, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches. An individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four Short-Term Agreements.

The group stage of the Leagues Cup tournament marks the entrance for 47 teams from the two top-tier leagues in the U.S. and Canada (Major League Soccer) and Mexico (LIGA MX). The tournament features 77 matches in four weeks during the summer where both leagues will pause their respective seasons. Every team will play two matches in the group stage, with the top two teams from each group, as determined by points, advancing to the Knockout Stage Round of 32.
