Timbers Beat Rival Seattle Sounders

Portland extends unbeaten streak in Seattle to six games

SEATTLE – The Portland Timbers recorded two second-half goals to secure a 2-0 win on the road against Seattle Sounders FC at Lumen Field on Sunday night.

Sebastían Blanco opened the scoring with his second goal of the season, while Felipe Mora closed out the game deep in second-half stoppage time, recording his team-leading eighth goal of the campaign.

With the win, Portland is unbeaten in its last six regular season matches (4-0-2) against Seattle at Lumen Field, dating back to Aug. 27, 2017. Notably, Portland has won four of its last five games on the road against Sounders FC. The Timbers have scored multiple goals in five of their six road matches against Sounders FC.

Blanco made his return to Seattle 357 days after suffering a season-ending injury at Lumen Field on Sept. 6, 2020, and scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute of the match. It was his second start of the season and his second goal of the 2021 campaign. His first start and first goal of 2021 came in the club’s home match against Seattle on Aug. 15 at Providence Park.

Mora notched his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the match. It was his fourth game-winning goal of the 2021 campaign. He also added his fourth assist of the season, setting up Blanco’s opening goal. Mora’s four assists rank second on the team in 2021. His eight goals and four assists are new career bests for Mora with the Timbers. In his last nine games, Mora has scored six goals and tallied two assists. Three of those goals have come in road matches for Portland.

Next week, Portland will continue their five-game stretch on the road in Texas when they take on Houston Dynamo at 5:00 p.m. (Pacific) on Friday, Sept. 3 at BBVA Stadium.
