Trail Blazers Acquire Deni Avdija

–    Team trades Malcolm Brogdon and draft picks to Washington –

PORTLAND, Ore. (July 6, 2024) – The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired forward Deni Avdija (Denny AHV-dee-uh) from the Washington Wizards in exchange for guard Malcolm Brogdon, the draft rights to the 14th overall selection in the 2024 NBA Draft Bub Carrington, along with a 2029 first-round pick, a 2028 second round pick, and a 2030 second-round pick, Trail Blazers General Manager Joe Cronin announced today.

Avdija, the ninth overall selection by the Washington Wizards in the 2020 NBA Draft, posted a career-high 14.7 points (50.6% FG, 37.4% 3-PT, 74.0% FT), 7.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 0.8 steals, and 30.1 minutes per game in 75 games (75 starts) during the 2023-24 season. Along with scoring, Avdija earned career-highs in field goal percentage (50.6), three-point percentage (37.4), rebounds per game (7.2), assists per game (3.8), and minutes per game (30.1). He tallied his 500th career assist last season on Nov. 27, 2023, becoming just the third player from the 2020 NBA Draft class to record at least 500 career assists and 1,000 career rebounds, joining LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards.

In his fourth season out of Maccabi Tel Aviv, Avdija has accrued career averages 9.8 points (45.7% FG, 32.7% 3-PT, 73.7% FT), 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 26.2 minutes per game in 287 games (155 starts) for the Wizards since 2020.

Avdija will wear No. 8 for Portland.
