Yanez on USA Softball Player of the Year Watch List

 

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oregon junior left-handed pitcher Brooke Yanez was named to the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List Wednesday, as announced by USA Softball.

The transfer from UC Davis earned Big West Pitcher of the Year honors as a sophomore and was named a second-team All-American by Softball America. A 2019 NFCA first-team all-region selection, she posted a 25-7 record and ranked fourth nationally with a 1.03 ERA and seventh in the country with 273 strikeouts in 203.2 innings pitched.

Yanez turned in a stellar freshman season, earning Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors after going 15-11 with a 1.75 ERA and 190 strikeouts in 187.2 innings. The Ventura, Calif. native brings a ton of experience to the Ducks’ pitching staff, owning a 40-18 career record and 1.38 ERA with 463 strikeouts over 391.1 innings.

The list of candidates for the award will trimmed down to 25 on April 22, with the winner being awarded on May 26. Oregon has had a top 10 finalist for the award five times in school history.
